13. Hydrocarbon Exploration-Production Sector Consultation Meeting

13th Hydrocarbon Exploration & Production Consultation Meeting was held on November 25, 2021 with the participation of sector stakeholders, especially Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Mr. Fatih Dönmez. At the meeting, the companies operating in the Exploration - Production Sector have found the opportunity to consult with notably Mr. Fatih Dönmez and the relevant Decision Makers about the problems they have encountered and discussed the solution proposals. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources; Fatih Dönmez stated that in the first phase of Sakarya Gas Field, in 10 wells 10 million cubic meters of production is planned and emphasized that after the completion of the second phase this figure will increase up to 40 million cubic meters depending on the number of wells to be drilled. Dönmez stated that in terms of oil and natural gas activities very succesful works were performed in 2020 and added that a total of 106 wells were drilled in 2020, and 71 of these wells had positive results. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Mr. Dönmez expressed that by the end of October 2021, 19,8 million barrels of crude oil and 347 million cubic meters of natural gas were produced and stated that the private sector’s share was %24 in crude oil production and %20 in natural gas production. PETFORM Chairman Mr. Dr. Ayhan Kırbaş remarked that within the framework of Turkey’s macroeconomic outlook, energy and especially crude oil and natural gas imports are among the most important causes of the current account deficit and emphasized that it is a national interest to bring the country’s resources into the economy more quickly and effectively and to operate the production fields efficiently. At this point, Mr. Kırbaş also stated that the Black Sea discovery is very important in terms of reducing the current account deficit and providing motivation to the private sector representatives to find new reserves in Turkey in the future.
