Impact of Incentives, Support and Subsidies in Turkish Energy Sector Panel

Secretary General Eser Özdil shared his views on the negative effects of subsidies on energy markets and his proposals in the “Impact of Incentives, Supports and Subsidies in Energy Sector Panel” was organized by Shura Energy Conversion Center.

Mr. Özdil said that energy costs are subsidized by decision-makers for a number of different reasons, particularly in reducing household energy costs, minimizing the effects of increases in electricity prices, supporting exports and this situation promotes inefficiency, leads to capital transfers between different sectors and, above all, seriously inhibits the liberalization and institutionalization of markets. Mr. Özdil said that it would be a realistic solution to support the energy costs of consumers in need without any intervention in the market in the light of TUIK data on the basis of EU practices and price interventions should be avoided in order to institutionalize the market.
